The side effects of sleep apnea can become dangerous and even life threatening. It is important to get sleep apnea treated before one of these side effects may cause harm to your health. Over 18 million Americans have sleep apnea and its becoming a growing problem. Obesity is one of the major causes of sleep apnea. Over 50% of people with some sort of sleep apnea are obese.

There are several side effects associated with sleep apnea, but I am only going to name some of the more dangerous and common ones. If left untreated sleep apnea can become a major health risk and even life threatening. Here are some of the major side effects:

When the airway is blocked duh to sleep apnea, you stop breathing. When breathing stops regularly you are not getting enough oxygen into your body. When oxygen levels drop many bad side effects come with it. This is just one reason to treat sleep apnea as soon as possible.

One of the biggest causes of some of these nasty side effects is stress and the hormones that come with it. The lack of sleep and irregular sleeping patterns puts stress on the body. The hormone most associated with stress is Cortisol and this is a major cause of weight gain. Stress can cause major problems with health, including heart issues.

If do not know if you have sleep apnea it is important to get checked out before these side effects cause you harm. If you already have sleep apnea, and want to avoid these dangerous side effects, it is important to treat your condition.

There are several different treatment options for sleep apnea out there. Each treatment has its benefits and it is all preference depending on what works best for each person. Keep an eye out for these side effects and choose a treatment that works good for you.
