Whether you are a recreational gambler or a regular at the horse
races, everyone knows the joy of cashing a big winning ticket on a long
shot. Handicapping horse races is tough and picking long shot winners is
really rough if you want to make money betting on horses. Almost
everybody has a story about some crazy bet they made and cashed on a
longshot, but few people can truthfully say they have made a profit
betting long shots
The
reason for that is that most people do not know when a longshot is a
good bet. Yet every day, week after week, year after year, long shots
win races. Every horse, including those longshots, had a jockey, trainer
and owner who were all involved in getting the horse into condition and
into that race. How many of them thought they had a chance to win?
Probably very few, but the ones who did know also probably bet on their
horse
I will admit that there were a few times when one my horses
won at long odds and I didn't even have a bet on it because I didn't
think it had a chance in the race. Then racing luck and things beyond
anyone's control turned the tables and my horse came across the finish
line first. Many people probably thought I cleaned up at the pay windows
but the sad truth was I was a s surprised as anyone when it won. That
happens
There were few times when I won when I had a hunch the
horse was going to improve a lot and I cashed in on it. Sometimes it was
a matter of changing the shoeing or figuring out what was bothering a
horse and fixing it. If bettors had been sharp those days they could
have seen that something was up with the horse by watching the money in
the pools. I don't just mean because there was win money on the horse,
but also how it was distributed. If you keep track of how the money is
spread around you can spot long shots that are intended to win
Like most things in life, if you follow the money you'll soon find the people who will be successful and who control the game
